Since I arrived, things have be cruising along. Arrived in Santiago, met up with Mike, got a bus to Pucon, got our boats at the Pucon Kayak Hostel and then met our crew of 12 to go paddle on the Fuy River.
Our drive started in the pouring rain which continued for 2 days and involved a lot of 2$ 1litre beers, pisco/cola (the local drink), the van over heating, removing the radiator cap early and having to push start it...... but we arrived in high spirts in time to get more beer and pisco cola for a fun night at Claudio's house.
Claudio lives and works on the Fuy River located in Choshuenco. The Fuy has 3 sections the Upper which is a favorite of many paddlers in the area (it was a bit on the high side after all the rain), the lower which is a big water continuous class 3+ section.... we paddled this 3 times it was great fun!! and the middle which is seldom run because it is a late summer and is very committing.
On friday night after a few runs on the lower we headed back to Claudio's and the party started again lots of pisco and beer so needless to say saturday started slow. We ended up going to look at the upper Fuy and it was pretty big so we looked at El Puma a 80 foot waterfall and Huilo Huilo a 100 foot waterfall. Chile is beautiful and the pictures don't it do it justice.
After checking out the waterfalls we headed for a lap on the lower, again good fun and then started out drive with the sketchy van back to Pucon.
After about 30 minutes of driving the van fully shit the bed so we had to leave it and jump in the back of Claudio's truck and the other little red truck. 2 1/2hrs of riding in the back of the truck in sleeping bags drinking pisco and beer got us to the local bar Mama's where again more pisco and beer come out..... need i say more.
Chile has welcomed use with open arms and now Mike, Claudio, myself and all our new paddling friends have more adventures ahead.

In 3 days I'm going to be meeting up with Mike Kobzik in Santiago Chile to jump on a bus to the creeking mecca of Pucon Chile. While we're there we are going to meet up with fellow NOLS instructor and Chilean local Claudio Vega to paddle as many rivers as we can! Stay tuned for updates throughout December.
